Australian Theatre of The Deaf Deaf Players Guide 1986 - reads, in part "The idea for the Australian Deaf Players' Guide comes from America's National Theatre of the Deaf, which has published such a guide every year since 1979. We felt the time right to publicise the fact that there are qualified deaf actors within Australia's theatre community who have contributed immensely to theatrical growth. Not all of these actors have professional experience - but all of them do have the training and talent to merit attention from theatre, television, and film producers who may find themselves with a deaf role to cast." -

"Anthony White (2021). Anthony Mannix's mixed realities. Art Monthly Australasia, (327), pp. 80-87." The Australian artist Anthony Mannix has produced a large body of work, mostly in the form of artist books. His art has featured in dozens of exhibitions; has been the subject of catalogues, journal articles and a PhD thesis; and has entered national and international collections. One of his most recent works, the dazzling, vibrantly decorated 2020 cover of I Am Cut Viciously, features a harrowing self-portrait of the artist. The work depicts Mannix with injuries he sustained while in 'a psychotic state' during a period in 1986 when he was homeless and living in the Royal National Park, New South Wales. As an artist with experience of complex mental health issues, or what he prefers to describe as 'mixed realities', Mannix has often been categorised as an 'outsider' artist.

“Disabled People’s International (Australia) (DPIA) formed in 1983” The organisation Disabled People’s International (Australia) (DPIA) was formed in 1983. Thirteen disabled Australians who attended Disabled People’s International (DPI) first world assembly in Singapore in 1981, the International Year of the Disabled Person, returned home to set up the Australian branch two years later. The Women with Disabilities Australia online history reports that DPIA “from the outset, was dominated by disabled men. Only 3 of the 11 members of its governance structure were women, and there was no mention of women or gender in DPIA goals and objectives.” This led to the establishment of a women’s network within DPIA, known as the National Women’s Network (DPIA).

“Disability in the Arts, Disadvantage in the Arts, Australia (DADAA), based in Western Australia, is established in 1994” The National Participate Conference, hosted by Arts Access Victoria in 1990, set the scene for the emergence of the DADAA network. This came after several years of conversations among Western Australian artists about starting an organisation; the organisation was officially established in 1994. “In 1986, a small group of artists with disability met to discuss starting their own WA-based arts organisation. It is from this meeting that DADAA slowly grew, from a pilot project it became an organisation in its own right in 1994: taking the name Disability in the Arts, Disadvantage in the Arts, Australia – DADAA.”
