"ARTAbility Conference" The national Disability and Arts Disadvantage and the Arts Australia (DADAA) committee was established in Melbourne, Victoria, in 1991, and – as described in the Access Arts Annual Report 1992 – at the inaugural meeting of this group in 1991, Access Arts offered to organise a conference for the group in 1992, with funding from the Queensland Performing Arts Trust, at the Queensland Cultural Centre - the Access Arts Annual Report 1992 says “Drawing on the experience of the Queensland ARTability conference of 1990 enabled Access Arts staff and members to be fully involved in the planning of the conference. "Interview with Emiko Artemis" Dr Emiko Artemis is a visual artist with a PhD and a history of both solo and group exhibitions. Interview Summary Emiko Artemis identifies as a non-binary queer disabled visual artist. Emiko acknowledges their work essentially reflects their personal experiences with disability and comments on society. Despite interpersonal challenges due to disabilities, Emiko cherishes occasional collaborations, facilitated by clear structures or supportive relationships. Their artwork, often seen as "weird" to the public, aims to be thought-provoking rather than being particularly political. Emiko values the growing visibility of disability in the arts and the increase in acceptance of diversity in society. They proudly embrace their own identity as an integral aspect of their creative practice -
"Incite Arts - Somebody Everybody - Program" Program for InCite Arts ‘Somebody Everybody’, reads, in part, “'Somebody Everybody” began as an exploration of ‘home’ in response to the artists missing their families and homes while living away during school time. This theme inspired us to explore personal stories of loss and grief, particularly in relation to family members and loved ones who have passed on. The work then expanded on the theme of ‘loss’ to explore all sorts of lost things including loved ones, pets and memories and the sorts of things we all lose at some point in our lives; hair, money, patience, the-way-home.” -
